it works well in both positions. I have slopped coffee on the case and it wiped right off without leaving a stain. If for some reason I needed another one, I would buy this one again.
Be careful and beware of the fact that not all 2018 models
are alike. The model OLED 55B8PUA has the older A7 processor while the OLED
C8PUA has the new A9 processor and the price of the C8 model is typically $200
more. That said, I bought the B8 (my mistake): however, it works fine, great
quality picture and it has the same features that 99% of viewers would not see
any difference between the B8 and the C8. So in the end I am satisfied with the
B8 and saved myself $200. is my good idea. thansk.

Here are 9 ways in which you'll be able to jazz up your expertise section to capture the eye of hiring managers:

1. Ditch the work Description

One of the foremost common mistakes is to put in writing expertise sections that browse like job descriptions. Some job seekers go thus far on copy job descriptions word for word. The result's a monotonous recap of job duties with no indication of actual job performance.

2. Prove Your price

Hiring managers scan your resume searching for clues concerning what style of employee you're. If you show that you just consistently created positive results for previous employers, you may be seen as a fascinating candidate. The secret is to stress your accomplishments and supply proof of your potential price.

3. Quantify Results

Which statement has additional impact?

A. considerably increased revenues and grew shopper base between 2005 and 2008.

B. Increased revenues from $250,000 in 2005 to $1.5 million in a pair of008 and tripled shopper base from 2,500 to 7,000.

In each cases, the candidate is making an attempt to convey he increased revenues and expanded the shopper base, however statement B measures how well he achieved this growth. Wherever potential, embrace measurable results of your work.

Note that not everybody will unharness company performance figures. If presenting this data may be a breach of confidentiality, realize otherwise to gift your accomplishments. as an example, use percentages instead of actual greenback figures.

4. Are You Up to PAR?

PAR stands for drawback Action Results and may be a sensible start line for pondering your accomplishments. What sorts of challenges did you face? What actions did you are taking to beat the problems? What was the results of your efforts, and the way did your performance profit the company? Write down an inventory of your PAR accomplishments and incorporate the foremost spectacular ones into your resume.

5. Lead together with your Work's Outcomes

An effective strategy is to put in writing the results of your work before listing the matter and action. this enables you to steer with the foremost compelling side of your accomplishment.

For example: Reversed an annual $2 million decline in market share by streamlining the benchmark method and building a top-flight sales team.

6. create It Readable

Some resumes use bullets to stipulate work histories, however this tends to blur duties and accomplishments, that dilutes the impact of achievements. alternative resumes use a narrative vogue to explain work history, that tends to be cumbersome to browse, particularly for hiring managers who are quickly scanning resumes to extract key data.

Instead, use a mixture of paragraphs and bullets. for every employer, give a quick paragraph that details the scope of your responsibilities. Then produce a bulleted list of your prime contributions. The bullets draw attention to your accomplishments, whereas giving the attention an area to rest. Preface accomplishments with a heading like Key Accomplishments or important Contributions.

7. Target Your expertise to Your Goal

Resumes are promoting tools. Your employment history ought to effectively market you for your current job objective. specialise in accomplishments that relate to your goal and take away job duties and accomplishments that do not support your objective.

8. Use Power Words

The quality of the writing makes or breaks your probabilities for an interview, therefore choose your words fastidiously. Avoid uninteresting or stale phrases like "responsible for" and "duties embrace."

9. Be Honest

Studies indicate that job seekers usually lie concerning their work experiences on their resumes. however with honest and well-written employment histories, even job seekers with less-than-perfect backgrounds can secure interviews. the most effective strategy for your resume is to continually be truthful concerning your background.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3795523245553505164.post-91552815373024999452012-04-12T01:24:00.002-07:002012-04-12T01:24:33.657-07:0010 Online Job Search Tips

1. If you build it, they can come.
Instead of simply posting your résumé on a Web site, take it one step further and design an easily-navigable Web site or online portfolio where recruiters can view your body of work, read about your goals and obtain contact information.

2. Check yourself to make sure you haven't wrecked yourself.
Google yourself to see what comes up -- and what potential employers will see if they do the same. If you don't like what you find, it's time to do damage control.

3. Narrow your options.
Many job boards offer filters to help users refine their search results more quickly. You should have the option to narrow your job search by region, industry and duration, and, oftentimes, you can narrow it even more by keywords, company names, experience needed and salary.

4. Go directly to the source.
Instead of just applying for the posted job opening, one of the best strategies to finding a job is to first figure out where you want to work, target that company or industry and then contact the hiring manager. Also, many employers' career pages invite visitors to fill out candidate profiles, describing their background, jobs of interest, salary requirements and other preferences.

5. Find your niche with industry Web sites.
Refine your search even more by visiting your industry's national or regional Web site, where you can find jobs in your field that might not appear on a national job board. More and more employers are advertising jobs on these sites in hopes of getting a bigger pool of qualified applicants.

6. Try online recruiters.
Recruiters will help match you with jobs that meet your specific skills and needs. Not sure where to start? Sites such as recruiterlink.com, onlinerecruitersdirectory.com, searchfirm.com and i-recruit.com provide links to online headhunters for job seekers.

7. Utilize video résumés.
Video résumés are just one more way to stand out to employers. Intended as supplements to -- not replacements for -- traditional résumés, video résumés allow job seekers to showcase a little bit of their personalities and highlight one or two points of interest on their résumés.

8. Run queries.
You run searches on everything else, from your high school sweetheart to low-fat recipes, so why not jobs? Enter a query that describes the exact kind of job you're seeking and you may find more resources you wouldn't find otherwise (but be prepared to do some sorting).

9. Utilize job alerts.
Most job boards have features that allow you to sign up to receive e-mail alerts about newly available jobs that match your chosen criteria. Or go a step further and arrange an RSS (really simple syndication) feed from one of these job sites to appear on your customized Internet homepage or your PC's news-reader software.

10. Get connected.
How many times have you been told that it's not what you know, but who you know? Thanks to the emergence of professional networking sites like LinkedIn.com, job seekers no longer have to rely on the old standby of exchanging business cards with strangers. These sites are composed of millions of industry professionals and allow you to connect with people you know and the people they know and so forth. (A word of caution: When you sign up for online social networking sites, you are in a public domain. Unless you are able to put a filter on some of your information, nothing is private, and it can be difficult to erase once it is posted.)

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3795523245553505164.post-73362158815402495592012-04-12T01:21:00.000-07:002012-04-12T01:21:12.402-07:00Idea Some Tips and Tricks

Use dynamic range names to keep your chart updating automatically. If you are going to use this mini-app to retrieve historical data over time, the range containing the historical data will continue to expand. We created dynamic range names, Date, High, Low and Close and used them in the chart series. As new data is added to the table, the chart will expand automatically. No macro code is needed. Creating dynamic range names is discussed in detail in Willow Tips 2000-3

To maintain flexibility let Excel do as much of your calculation as possible. For example, we could have written macro code which would have calculated the month day and year for our end date. If for some reason you want to use a different end date, you can easily change the value in a single cell rather than trying to change the macro code.

Each time a web query is run Excel creates a name for it. This would not be a problem if the web query was always the same. However, each time historical data is retrieved it is a new name is created. In order to keep this workbook from becoming bogged down with a numerous web query names, we created a macro which runs when the workbook is closed and deletes all the web query names. The macro is contained in the Workbook On_Close event. Excel puts a number at the end of each new web query. When the workbook is closed the macro deletes all names which end in a number.

You are not limited to retrieving historical prices just for US traded equities. Yahoo has local sites which allow you to retrieve historical prices on issues traded in other countries. We were able to use web queries to retrieve historical data on equity instruments traded in the UK and Germany by going to the finance sections of those countries.

I recently had the pleasure of attending the interactive portion of SXSW last week in Austin. To say that it was overwhelming would be an understatement. With an estimated attendance of nearly 25,000 people there to learn, connect and talk about technology, there were so many sessions I wanted to attend that putting a schedule together made my head spin.

However, one of the sessions I attended offered some great advice on today’s digital job hunt. If you have no time to read the rest of this post, then just take away this piece of sage advice: Don’t bury the lead.

Don’t know what that means? “Burying the lead” comes from the old journalism principle that you should start with the most interesting and unique part of the story to grab a reader’s attention, versus “burying” it behind less important or secondary information.

Don’t bury the lead
You should also apply this principle to your résumé. Place your most relevant and interesting experience at the top. If you find yourself struggling to make your career tantalizing for a recruiter, always remember that substantial, quantifiable successes prove your abilities. Don’t just list out your day-to-day duties.

Remember, your résumé is the first opportunity you have to make an impression on a recruiter or hiring manager and should be strong enough to entice the employer to schedule an interview with you. Consider that the employer likely has a few minutes tops to review the résumé, so get to the point of why you are an outstanding candidate right away.

Supplement skills with your social passions
The panel went on to discuss that one of the keys to standing out is by identifying your social identity (via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and syncing your social persona and passions with your résumé to create a stronger, cohesive online identity. When you can tie your passions into your career objectives or show how those passions are related or help you in your career, you are seen as the “whole package.” Skills are one thing, but to find a passionate employee who can fuse it all together – that’s a person who truly stands out.

Interview advice
In addition to the talk about résumés, there was some discussion about interviews, and the key takeaway was similar to what we always recommend: practice, practice, practice. Be able to speak through examples of your résumé and expand upon the statistics or figures you’ve used by telling how you achieved those results. Watch a video on the Do’s and Don’ts of interviews now.
Question in interviews are always in "essay" format. In other words, they want you to discuss the answer and give them an overview of the answer. This can be a challenge for many of us that don't really speak in "essay" format. However, this is a hump that has to be conquered if you want to improve your interviewing skills.
Here are a few questions and answers that may help:

Question: Tell me about yourself?
Why: This is one of the most frequently asked questions you will ever get in a help desk interview. The interviewer makes this question vague so that he can grade you on where you take the question.
Advice: Answer the question in a way that prompts questions and be a little vague yourself so the interviewer can steer you a bit. You don't want to bore him to death by talking about your Disney vacation while you were in grade school, but you want to have "ammunition" for as long as he can stand listening to you drone on. Also, try to talk about your technical skills, experience, and your general interest in IT. Don't be afraid to show a little personality either, IT managers would rather hire someone they like, than someone that knows everything about IT.
Example: I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and have pretty much stayed there my entire life. During high school I worked at X, fixing up old computer for resale. Have you ever been to X? Well, they are a small company near the city that buys old equipment from companies in the area, fixes them up, and sells the refurbished equipment at auction. I had to leave the company when I went away to college, but it was a regretful decision. I really enjoyed working with the people over there, and liked the fast pace environment. During college I worked in the IT department as an intern and spent most of the time removing malware and other similar issues, setting up network printers, and the usual day-to-day help desk type work.
Summary: During the entire answer you were talking about your skills indirectly, you showed that you like working with people, and you went out of your way to let the interviewer know that you like a fast paced environment (all help desks are). You asked questions making the entire session interactive and the single question could have turned this into more of a conversation (two-way), than a dissertation.
Question: Why Should I Hire You?
Why: This question is meant to make you a little uncomfortable. The interviewer wants to see if you can talk him into hiring you.
Advice: Be a little humble and talk more about how you can grow in the position and less about how you already know everything.
Example: I will hit the ground running and be sure to learn everything I can as quickly as I can. Your technology environment is very complex and I look forward to jumping in with both feet and learning all I can from day one. This is a big opportunity for me and I would do everything possible to make sure I succeed in the position.
Summary: This quick answer speaks volumes about you and what your goals are. You are telling the interviewer that you want the job. This is the most important message to convey. In addition, you are suggesting that you will be an asset from the first day, and your value to the company will grow exponentially every day after your first day. Finally, you are telling him that this isn't just a job for you. This is a "big opportunity", this is a great closer.
Question: What is your biggest weakness?
Why: This is another question that is designed to make you a little uncomfortable. Describing your weaknesses to a perfect stranger is not easy to do.
Advice: I've given hundreds of job interviews and I can't say with any certainty that anyone ever answered this question perfectly. Try to talk about a weakness you have that may be construed as strength.
Example: I tend to become obsessed with difficult to solve problems. I know it often makes more sense to escalate an issue to someone that is more familiar than I am, but this process may elude me sometimes.
Summary: You are telling your interviewer that you want to fix everything you see, but are willing to succumb and escalate the problem if that is part of their help desk processes.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3795523245553505164.post-27949353074671858272012-02-17T05:10:00.000-08:002012-02-17T05:10:26.033-08:007 Career Tips for Job Hunting

In this seven half series we are going to give job search methods and tips to revive your job hunt and reenergize your career confidence.

1) half Time Job, a Temporary Job, or Volunteering

Seek out short term, part-time, or temporary work in your career field is a good way to get your foot in the door. Even if there does not seem to be any full time jobs opening any time soon, part time work and temp work is a way your employer can get to know you and your work ethic. If a job happens to open up or a new position is created, then you are at a higher advantage then others applicants who may be applying for that same job. You'll have much more than a resume to show the company.

2) Work on your Personal Brand

If someone were to search for your name online, what, if anything would they see? In all likelihood, hiring you is a big investment to any company or organization. Especially in challenging economic times and an employer driven job market, companies are being more selective about their job applicants.

Take a few minuets and search for yourself online to determine what your digital footprint is. Do you share a name with someone that could create a career opportunity or a problem with your online image?

Use your personal brand to let the employer know your strengths, why they should hire you, and that you are a worthy candidate to investment in. If you remember, the personal brand is your life and professional skills as they appear online. You want your personal brand to be accurate and truthful, but you also want to it to make you look great to an employer. Your brand should reflect your overall qualifications, education, and indicate your career goals.

See what shows up in a Google search and a Yahoo search. Having a LinkedIn profile and profiles on other professional social networking sites can help to create a positive digital footprint. Your profile should be professional and consistent. Keep your information consistent with similar career goals and career objectives in each profile. Avoid blending social media and your online professional image. It is important to keep your private life PRIVATE. That is a mistake many people make with personal branding which may cost them being selected for that next job or opportunity.

3) Changing Careers or Branching Out to New Industries

Diversify you job search and branch out into new job markets you may not have considered in your previous job hunting strategies. Pick a career field, any career field and determine if your skills and qualifications would translate into new job opportunities.

That is not to say that you should just apply for the first job opening that presents itself. As a matter of fact, the opposite is true. Choose a career field that may benefit from your professional knowledge. Your best option is to look at a small geographic area and determine what employers are within this region. Examine what the area employer's job positions and the job descriptions they are seeking and compare the qualifications to your resume. A midlife career change into a new industry can appear challenging but rewriting a career change resume and cover letter can quickly expand your employment options.

Examine your strengths. If you are not good with people, do not apply to personnel jobs. If you do not have an aptitude for math, do not apply for engineering or accounting jobs. Choose an industry or career field you know you can succeed in and focus your job search in that field. Perhaps you haven't found a job yet because you are stretched across too many possible career paths. You may have missed an opportunity while you were wasting your time and applying to jobs that do not suit you. As a job search seems to drag on, it may seem tempting to try to apply for everything, but stay focused on your qualifications and job skills.

Be realistic about the types of jobs you are applying for. Most often when make a career transition into a new job market you will find yourself competing for more junior level positions then you would within your current career field. Changing careers may seem like a step backwards; yet showing potential future employers you are capable of taking on new challenges, have the foresight, and flexibility to expand your skill set across industries can become a strong asset.

4) Use Career Counseling and Career Advice Services

Get some help. If month after month has passed with no job offers or employment prospect you may need some help with your job hunt. You do not want to be put in a position where your financial obligations overtake you focusing on your job search.

Recent college graduates and college alumni can use their college's career services department. Beyond employment listings and postings, many college career service departments offer interview preparation assistance, resume writing and career advice, and can assist you in choosing a career path. These services are often helpful when you are considering changing careers or at a career transition. Also, many companies seek out students from specific universities, colleges, and specific degree program or departments. A career advisor in the schools career services can connect you with these companies.

Beyond the college or university career services centers, look into what career placement services your local city or county provides. Contact your local chamber of commerce to begin your search for these types of local services. Many of these services are either free of charge or at a minimal fee to local residents.

Depending on your specific situation, consider hiring a professional career advisor or career counselor. A professional career counselor's job is to help you figure out exactly what you want to do and advise you on how to maximize your resources and qualifications.

Before electing to get a career counselor, do some research on what services the career counseling service provides and what their recent candidate placement success rates are. This way, you will know what to expect as an end result. Will they help you find a career path, provide resume writing advice and interview preparation, placement services, and help you along the way? Do not be afraid to ask for help when the job search seems to be dragging on. Having a career advisor or an independent career service can help you revitalize your job hunt.

5) Is Your Resume Writing Reflective of your Career Objective

Refresh your resume and your professional image. If your job search appears stalled, take this time to review your resume and your overall professional image. This includes your cover letter, professional social media sites such as Linked-In, and your professional references.

If employers have already seen your resume and you have not received any responses back, then this might be your cue to give your resume a second look. Check your resume for spelling mistakes, typos, and poor grammar. Those are a definite turn-off to any potential employer.

Do you think your online resume would pass the 20 second test? Remember that 20 seconds is generally the amount of time an employer will spend looking over your resume. In that time frame, an employer will decide whether or not he or she will call you in for a job interview. If it has been a while since you have been called for any interviews, then this may indicate that your resume does not pass the 20 second test. Some resume writing changes may be necessary. Also, be sure that your resume is aesthetically pleasing and your resume qualifications, education, and experience properly flows together.

6) Using only Top Job Search Engines can Limit Your Career Options

Not all job search websites are created equal. Searching that next job opportunity using online job search engines can distribute your resume to many companies and employment centers. Although, not all job search websites are weighted the same for your professional career field or industry.

Major job websites like Moster.com and CareerBuilder.com are great choices to broadcast your resume skills and qualifications. However, your chances in getting noticed on these online job search sites are low. Thousands of career professionals and job seekers are posting and updating their resumes daily, and in a highly competitive job market, being too general with your career objectives may not result in you landing that job.

Take some time to research what are the best job search sites, specific to your industry or career objectives. If your career field is within the medical industry, look for those web sites that focus specifically on medical jobs or nursing jobs. Expand your career and look for part time job search opportunities to get into a company or organization.

Be focused and specific in your job search and make sure you are looking everywhere. Limiting yourself to just a few major job sites can be disastrous. Many of the jobs you are seeking may not be listed on the common and the most popular job search engines. So, try looking at lesser known job sites, and on industry specific ones. Check your local newspaper daily, especially on Sunday editions. Sometimes a job listing may be printed on only one day in the newspaper.

Keep checking your professional social networking sites and keep your eyes open for mentioning of possible job openings. You might be missing out on great opportunities by limiting your search to one place. If you are unemployed, be sure to tell everyone that you are looking. People talk and word will get around. Your friend's cousin's girlfriend may be in the Human Resources department in a company where they are hiring. You could be surprised where you find your next job. Whatever you do, do not stop looking until you find what you are looking for.

7) Revisit your Long Term Career Choices

What long term career planning steps have you considered throughout your professional career. Often times we can become comfortable and somewhat complacent within our chosen occupation after we have met certain education and experience requirements. However, over time we can loose our job security if our skills are not continually up to date or with economic shifts, technology innovations, or company restructuring.

If you find yourself in a position where there does not appear to be any jobs in your career field, they you may consider changing industries. Change can be good, but when you mention changing careers, often people confuse this with more schooling or education, significant changes in their schedule, or starting back at the beginning. While any change may require some retraining or new on the job knowledge, changing careers maybe easier then one would think.

Examine what parallel industries or other careers use your same talents. Seek out career counseling and take several career tests to help you determine what industries you maybe unaware of that use your qualifications. A career counselor can help you with this decision and provide you some inside knowledge on specific career fields. If you do not have a career counselor, then you may want think about who in your local area hire professionals with your skills and list all the things you loved about your old job. Then look for jobs that have those same qualities. You can also look at things you disliked about your old job, and look for jobs that do not have those qualities. Take a reputable personally or career test and consider jobs that work for your personality type.

The worst thing you can do is nothing, especially if you see major changes coming in your career field where your future employment could be effected. A proactive approach can open new doors and provide you with new career opportunities.
Are you looking for a part-time job? With the poor working market, even part-time jobs are harder to encounter & land than they were years ago. Here are some helpful tips on the way you can improve your chances of getting a job with reduced hours.

Apply for Lots of Jobs

The more jobs you apply for, the better chance you stand of landing an interview. In fact, you will likely land multiple job interviews. This may lead to you having a choice between part-time job or another.

There's numerous methods of applying for part-time jobs & all of these avenues ought to be explored. Start by performing a search on a job search site. Lots of sites have filters that enable you to see part-time positions only. Then, examine your newspaper's employment section. Also, examine the only net site of local companies & look for a job, careers, or employment section to examine current job openings. Finally, know that lots of part-time jobs are only advertised in-house, meaning their might be a sign posted.

Have Nice Hours of Availability

In the event you are interested in obtaining a part-time job to supplement your current income, you are going to have reduced hours of availability. For example, you can only work after your full-time job. This does impact your ability to land some part-time jobs.

When feasible, make your hours of availability as flexible as feasible. For example, lets say that you are a college student that prefers to leave your Friday nights open & your Saturdays open for recovery from the partying last night. When applying for jobs in retail or food, these are common work hours & shifts. It is time to choose now whether you'd like to have free time or a job.

Properly Fill Out the Job Application.

Attach a Resume to Your Job Application

As a rule, part-time job applications are improperly handled. Lots of job seekers tend to feel that part-time jobs are not as important as full-time jobs; therefore, they do not need as much attention. This is not true. Due to the economy even experienced adults are accepting low-paying jobs with fewer hours to make ends meet. This increase in competition means you need to make a nice impression. Spending time on your application & fully listing all training, job experience, & schooling that can benefit you is recommended.

As historicallyin the past said, you need to set yourself apart from the competition when submitting a job application. What better way to do this than to submit a resume along along with your application? A printed resume can be stapled to the back of a printed job application. Lots of companies now enable job seekers to optional upload a resume to attach to their online job application. Do this!

Most job seekers do not submit resumes for part-time positions. Do so & your additional hard work will be noticed. It is important to note however that you ought to not write "see attached resume" on all job application fields, as this is viewed as lazy. Fill out the resume as requested & then attach your resume.
Sometimes you will be before a panel of people who will take turns asking you questions. Sometimes only one person will be meeting with you to ask questions. Some employers may also conduct phone interviews prior to inviting you for an "in person" meeting.

Despite the format, one of the key components to a successful interview is to keep the employer focussed. Focussed on what you may be wondering? Focussed on you! On what you are saying and the message you are trying to get across. When attending an interview, you are up against many distractions that may have you fighting to keep the attention of those asking the questions. Bear in mind that people are people and employers, just like you and I, can get easily bored, can have other things on their minds, and might be suffering from interview fatigue. In some cases, you may be the fourteenth person they are interviewing and they may be tired.

Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of interviewing, from an employer's point of view, is having to sit through long-winded and rambling answers or having to search for the point in what the applicant is saying. Combine this with the fact that the interviewers may be approaching fatigue, and you are looking at a no win situation.

So...how do you fight the odds and maximize your chances of success? One of the most effective ways is to structure your answers. Structuring your answers will ensure that you are concise and to the point with your responses. It will have a positive effect on the interview panel, particularly if they just sat through a previous interview with a candidate who was long winded and was rambling. There are many ways that an interview panel decides if you will be hired. Sometimes it is be a formal scoring system in which they are looking for certain content in the responses, or sometimes it is an informal evaluation. It can also be any variation or combination of the two.

Structuring your answers works in spite of the format being used. Let's look at an example:

A Non-Structured Approach:

Interview Panel: Tell us about your experience in project management and how your experience can make a difference to our company.

Job Applicant: Well, I am managing a project called Trans-go which I have done for the last fourteen months. I also managed a construction project in the late eighties but just before my current job, I was a project manager for IBIX Software Inc. I delivered on each project and I was on budget except for the IBIX job which had its budget cut. Presently, at T.R.Z.I., I am ahead of schedule and the steering committee is pleased.

* The problem with this answer is that it is unstructured and incoherent. If the answer is hard to follow, you can be sure that you will lose points in its evaluation. Employers do not want to search for the answer; they want you to present it clearly.

Let's look at the same question, this time with a structured answer.

Interview Panel: Tell us about your experience in project management and how your experience can make a difference to our company.

Job Applicant:

I would like to begin by providing a brief description of the last three positions I have had as a project manager. I will then describe the skills I have acquired as a result of my experience. Lastly, I will demonstrate how these skills will allow your company to move forward on its goals and objectives.

(At this point, the panel knows that you have understood the question. They know, in advance, how you will be presenting your answer. They are thus "tuned in" and ready to listen. Equally as important, you have given yourself a structure to follow to keep on track.)

The following are some excerpts of the answer:

My present position is with Sunnex Inc where I am the Project Manager for Trans-go ; a project that will result in the complete automation of freight car shipping. Prior to that I was Project Manager for.....

In all of these positions, I encountered obstacles and challenges that threatened the project's success. I learned to overcome these challenges by employing creative approaches and group problem solving. I was thus able to keep each project on time, within budget and within the desirable quality of result. I did this by........

I am aware that your company is in the process of downsizing and that resources are fewer today than they were last year. I am also aware that, in spite of this, your customers demand greater quality of service. My experience in devising creative solutions to complex problems is one of the many ways that I can make a difference.......

You will notice that the answer follows the structure. Structuring your answer works especially well when the questions are multi-layered and long or otherwise complex. It forces you, and the interviewers, to break the question and the answer down. It also provides them with a clear presentation of the answer which incites better scoring. The best way to structure an answer is to announce how you will answer the question, before you begin answering it. This announcement helps the interviewers to understand your answer and keeps you "on track".

In this JobTip, we have used a fairly complex example from the world of project management. Bear in mind however, that you can structure an answer to almost any question. Questions like: Why do you want this position? Why are you the best candidate for the job? What are your strengths and weaknesses? can also be answered more effectively by structuring the answer.

The point of this JobTip is, structure your answers! It will keep your answer "on track" and will maximize your scoring potential. Structuring your answer is like reading the outside of a paperback novel. The brief description of what is to come gets the reader's attention. The story inside keeps the readers attention.
1. Be a better listener. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was considered one of the most charming women in the world because she cultivated the skill of being an exceptional listener. She was known for the way she would look a person in the eyes, hang on their every word, and make them feel important. There is nothing more appealing than having someone listen to you intently making you feel like you're the only person in the world.

2. Read more and expand your interests. The more you read and cultivate new interests, the more interesting you are to others. When you meet new people it gives you the opportunity to share what you know and to exchange your views with them.

3. Be a good conversationalist. This relates to how much you read and know. Once you have much to contribute, learn how to talk about it with others. No one can read about or know everything, so it's refreshing to learn from others those things we don't have the time to about read ourselves. If you happen to be shy, join a group like Toastmasters that encourages you to talk about what you know.

4. Have an Opinion. There is nothing more tiresome than trying to talk to someone who has no opinion on anything. A conversation has nowhere to go if you have nothing to expound on. If, however, you have an uncommon point of view or differing opinion, you are more interesting and stimulating to be in the company of (unless you're a know-it-all, of course). A unique outlook expands everyone's perspective.

5. Meet New People. Make the effort to meet new people especially those unlike you. It not only exposes you to different cultures and alternative ways of doing things, it broadens your horizons.

6. Be yourself. The next most tiresome thing after having no opinions is trying to be something you're not. Molding yourself in order to fit in, or be accepted, usually backfires. Since each of us is unique, expressing that uniqueness is what makes us interesting. Attempting to be a carbon copy of someone else not only falls flat, but reveals a lack of authenticity.

7. Have a positive outlook and attitude. Who wants to be around people who are negative, complain a lot, or have nothing good to say? In fact, most of us run when we see them coming. Instead, be the kind of upbeat person who lights up a room with your energy when you enter it. Do it by looking for the best in people and things. Smile warmly, spread good cheer, and enliven others with your presence.

8. Be fun and see the humorous side of life. Everyone enjoys the company of someone who makes them laugh or smile. Look for the humorous or quirky side in a situation - there always is one. When you are fun and lighthearted people are naturally attracted to you.

9. Be supportive of others. Being supportive is probably the most endearing quality you can integrate into your personality. Just as you yourself welcome it, be the support for others when they need it. We all love a cheerleader in our corner; someone who is encouraging, believes in us and helps pick us up when we're down.

10. Have Integrity and treat people with respect. Being honest and true to your word will bring you the admiration, respect and gratitude of others. Nothing improves a person's personality more than integrity and respect - respect for others, as well as respect for yourself.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3795523245553505164.post-56671184117633689332011-05-22T21:35:00.000-07:002011-05-22T21:35:29.706-07:00Job Stress Management Tips to Start Today

Stress. Pressure. Anxiety. Tension. Whatever you call it, there is no shortage of it in today’s fast-paced, technologically advanced workplace. Consider these statistics:
Stress-related disorders are fast becoming the most prevalent reason for worker disability according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Job stress and related problems cost American companies an estimated $200 billion or more annually through absenteeism, turnover, accidents, etc.

The World Health Organization calls job stress a "worldwide epidemic."
Obviously stress has a powerful impact on us. Can we eliminate the stressors of modern work life? No -- and it’s a good thing we can’t. We need a certain degree of stress in our lives to spur us to action, challenge our perception of what we are capable of, and help us reach new levels of performance.
The trick is learning how to manage the stress versus being overwhelmed by it.
Bill Delano, founder of Job Stress Help, an Internet service that provides confidential, individualized advice via email to those experiencing job stresses, has these suggestions:
In with the Good Air, Out with the Bad
Take a breathing break. Frequent short breaks during the day allow you to breathe deeply and relax your mind, preventing stress build-up.
Know the Enemy
What, exactly, is stressing you out? Is it your job? Your home life? Your relationships? Without knowing the root of the problem, you are unlikely to resolve it. If you are having difficulty identifying the source of your stress, seek professional help from your Employee Assistance Program or a mental health professional.
Move It or Lose It
Begin an exercise program. Exercise helps release endorphins, which relieves stress.
Let Go
Recognize the difference between the things you can control and the things you cannot. Make a list of these two categories. Starting today, make a pact with yourself to stop stressing about the things in your job you have no control over.
Beware of the To Do List
Take note of all the good work you do and give yourself credit for it. Set short-term goals and allow yourself to take satisfaction in achieving them.
Develop a Tough Skin
Try not to personalize any criticism you receive. Look at negative comments as constructive criticism that allows you to improve your work. If however, the criticism is verbally abusive, e.g., your boss yells at you or uses vulgar language; discuss this problem with your manager or human resources department.
Share the Load
Delegate or share work whenever possible. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you are the only person who can do the job right. Your coworkers and boss might start to buy into that concept as well.
Don’t Make Work a Four Letter Word.
Job stress builds when our minds are constantly focused on work. Strive for balance in your life. Make time for family, friends, hobbies and, most importantly, fun.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3795523245553505164.post-18394075250465574702011-01-02T00:42:00.000-08:002011-01-02T00:42:25.636-08:00New Job Ideas

This is not an article about new job ideas for those who simply want to do something different for a living. It is about changing our ideas about the meaning of employment. I was inspired to think about this by an article in Time Magazine in March of 2009. It suggested that as a culture we are largely done with our constant concern with real estate value and stock market investments, thanks to the current recession.

No more do people see their rising 401K value as a ticket to early retirement. Nor do they get to tap into their home equity (which has largely vanished) as a way to live beyond what their income allows. According to the article, we are turning towards giving the same attention and nurturing to our employment as we used to those previous sources of wealth.

In fact, the title of the piece was "Why Your Job is Your Most Valuable Asset." It was a bit misleading though, in that what was really pointed to as the valuable asset was not a person's job, but the skills that make jobs an option. That made more sense and got me thinking.

Will people begin to invest in and develop job skills the way they carefully invest in their retirement accounts. Will we start to talk about the "mental equity" we have in the form of experience and training and knowledge? Will enrollment in non-credit job-skill classes rise as workers try to bolster their qualifications for one or more types of work?

Maybe so. Now I personally think that the future will be one with fewer and fewer jobs as more and more people begin to work in their own businesses or as independent contractors. But there will be jobs, and some people will always prefer the consistency of pay and simplicity of working for others. So what can they do to make themselves more employable?

Specialization has its place. If you spend enough years doing computer programming, tax preparation or machine designing you'll have an edge on the competition in those fields. You might even be the only one in town who specializes in preparing tax returns for companies which are based locally but incorporated in other countries.

On the other hand, what if they actually simplify the tax code someday, putting half of the tax preparers in the country out of work? What if computers start programming themselves? Things change, and whole industries die. How would you have liked to be starting a career as a wagon wheel maker in 1905, just as cars started to become popular?

Here's a new job idea that solves this problem to some extent. It comes from a newspaper article I saw on a young man who was trying to work at 52 jobs in 52 weeks. That's the basic idea, by the way. Fresh out of high school or college, perhaps young people should work a few months at several different jobs, just to have the experience and skills for whatever the future brings.

To be more systematic about this, you might choose a couple jobs that are likely to be recession-proof, like being a cook or bar tender, and several that are in a growing area, like retirement home administration or medical fields. With a variety of job skills and experiences you should be able to find work in almost any kind of economy.

Of course you may have noticed that your resume alone doesn't always get you a job. In addition to skills and experiences in specific fields, you might want to develop the skills of getting hired. It may seem a radical suggestion, but what if you obtained and quit seven or eight jobs in a span of a couple months early in your working life? That - in addition to using the good advice in some of the books out there - might make you much more prepared to quickly get a new job if you should ever lose your existing one unexpectedly.

A Few More Job Ideas

- See yourself as a business, with your labor as your product. Think about how to make your customers happier and more likely to keep using your service.

- There are jobs that are meant to provide income, jobs that are meant to train you for a related business, jobs that are actually what you want to do in life, jobs meant to build a resume, and sometimes even jobs that are only about getting to know people who can be useful. Think about what kind of job you are looking for, or what elements each position considered has.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3795523245553505164.post-67781846515808341552011-01-01T01:09:00.000-08:002011-01-01T01:09:25.368-08:00Beat Your Competition

The easiest way to make it in today’s job hunting market is to be the best in your field -- there are so many job seekers that you need a way to stand out. This is not always easy to do when so many people are looking for jobs. The larger U.S. companies usually receive thousands of applications for every posted job opening.

For example, Nissan North American recently listed 158 open jobs and 13,000 individuals applied. Statistics like this may be discouraging but there are still ways to get ahead. However, there are many tips for job hunting in today’s market which can be helpful. One of the first questions to ask yourself is, "what do I value?"

Before looking for a job you should recognize what you value in terms of a company environment and job responsibilities. You should delineate what is important to you and what you would need in terms of salary and benefits. Once you know this you will be able to narrow your focus to job openings that fit these targets and your job search will be more effective.

Another tip for searching for jobs in today’s competitive market is to recognize the type of job you want to do. Many people don’t take the time to identify the job they want so they apply for any kind of job that has an opening. Without a narrow focus they end up sending out generic resumes that don’t get noticed. To narrow your focus, find jobs which you are interested in, and qualified for, and create a specialized resume for each one.

Another one of the tips for job hunting in today’s job search is to recognize your past accomplishments. This way you will know what you have to offer to potential employees. For example, if you have helped past employers meet certain objectives you will be able to identify ways that you can help potential employers succeed. Recognizing your past accomplishments will also help you narrow your job search.

Networking is another way job hunters can find out about job openings. Many times if you already know somebody within the company, or know somebody that knows somebody within the company, you may be able to get your foot in the door. Personal references frequently help job hunters find job openings better than applying for jobs on job websites.

It is also important to research different company’s you are interested in. Research will help you identify the company's you should be applying to and help you recognize what you can offer to a company. If you do receive an interview the interviewer will be impressed that you have done your research. Additionally, job hunters need to be able to market themselves and convince employers that they are the best candidate.

A final, and equally important, of the tips for job hunting in today’s market is to not become discouraged if you don’t hear anything
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18293743379776769228noreply@blogger.com0
